MUSIC, DANCING, COMEDY, STORIES AND GAMES
It doesn’t matter what the temperature is outside, the Varsity’s cast of drag performers will bring the heat at the The Varsity’s All-Ages Drag Show on Friday, Jan. 14. Turn Up the Heat begins at 7 p.m., with the Varsity Bar opening at 6.
The monthly, multi-faceted drag show features comedy, dancing, lip-synching, games and stories by queens and a king. Southern Illinois’ Pride Queen and the godmother of Carbondale’s drag scene, Blanche DuBois, is the evening’s emcee, and she’ll also perform. Joining Blanche will be Jodie Santana, Southern Illinois Pride King Faim Lee Jewls, Leiyana Santana and Leimomi. Christina Garnette will be the evening’s pre-show hostess and will perform a number, too.
This is an all-ages show, and the Varsity welcomes young people; however, the show can be on the risqué side, and those 17 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
The show begins at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14. Tickets are $10 for adults or $5 for students with ID. They are available in advance at www.thevarsitycenter.eventbrite.com. Tickets are not available in advance at the venue but will be available there on the night of the show, when doors and the Varsity Bar open at 6.
The Varsity advises that tickets are purchased in advance, as the shows usually sell out before the performance.
Come early and enjoy a special cocktail at the bar in the company of Christina and the Varsity staff. Bartenders will be mixing special drinks for the evening.
