WALTHAM, MA — The Waltham Department of Public Health has adopted updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention regarding isolation and quarantine periods for members of the general public who have tested positive for COVID-19, but are asymptomatic. Specifically, the new guidance shortens the recommended time for isolation and quarantine for asymptomatic COVID-19 patients from 10 days to five days, followed by five days of wearing a mask when around others. Symptomatic COVIID-19 patients are still ask to remain in quarantine for 10 days after they first begin having symptoms. This updated guidance applies to K-12 schools. The city's health officials are reviewing new CDC guidance regarding isolation and quarantine for healthcare workers and will release more information when it becomes available.
