Description

Press release from the City of Brookfield: December 29, 2021 The City is getting a new contractor for collection of trash and recycling in 2022. We have put together a list of Frequently Asked Questions to help with this transition: Q: Why is the City getting a new contractor?A: The contract with the current company concluded at the end of 2021. The Common Council evaluated several proposals for trash and recycling collection. Unfortunately, Waste Management, the current company providing this service proposed fees that were near double what they had been for up-the-drive service. There was no way the City could afford that. Two other proposals were received by the City for up-the-drive service, with Green for Life (GFL) submitting the best and lowest cost proposal. Q: Who is the company providing collection in 2022.A: Green For Life (GFL) is the new company. Their management team consists of the same team at Advanced Disposal who provided this service for the past decade plus. Q: What is the new green can in my driveway for?A: This is the new recycling can for you to use in 2022. Q: What do I do with the old blue recycling can?A: You can keep it if you like and use it for additional recycling (overflow) or for other purposes (except garbage as that may be confusing). If you do not want the can, you can attach a note to it telling Waste Management to take it on their last collections in December. Q: What are these papers in the new recycling can?A: The instructions include notes on how to recycle and your collection day. Q: There was also a note indicating that because of supply chain issues, GFL is saying the up-the-drive services will need to be temporarily modified for January and February. What is that all about?A: Some of you may have received an additional flyer that stated this. GFL was awaiting delivery of their new equipment for performing up-the-drive collection, HOWEVER, they have purchased additional trucks in the interim so this is no longer valid. THERE WILL BE NO DELAY IN PROVIDING UP-THE-DRIVE SERVICE. Q: How long is this contract for?A: The contract is for 7 years with an option to extend beyond that timeframe.
