NEWTOWN, CT — Newtown will distribute 3,400 free coronavirus test kits to residents Friday, according to officials. "The purpose of this distribution is to provide test kits to be used this week to reduce the spread of the Omicron variant and to supplement existing testing," officials wrote in a statement. "Primary focus is on the members of the public who have interacted with or who intend to interact with others whose COVID status may be unknown. Additional tests will be provided to school districts in early January." To receive a free kit (which contain two tests), you must register in advance by clicking here. "Each household can receive a maximum of two kits (note that each kit has 2 tests in it for a total of 4 tests per household)," officials said. "If you only need one, please only take one. Duplicate appointments will be canceled." Kits will be distributed from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Friday — to those residents with confirmed appointments — at Reed School at the rear entrance/bus driveway. Access will be by following Trades Lane past the school's front entrance and then turning left on to Old Farm Road. There will be signs and personnel for direction. "Proof of residency and confirmed appointment will be required," officials said. "Please have your printed email confirmation and your ID ready when you arrive at the distribution site. Please only arrive during your scheduled time slot. Tests will be distributed to registrants in their car, this is adrive-through distribution." Newtown's Emergency Management team is coordinating the distribution effort, and reminds residents "that there are not enough kits for every resident" in Newtown. "We understand that this may prove to be challenging, as all things Covid-19-related tend to be," officials said. "We will continue to communicate updates regarding future distributions of test kits and masks as details develop and become available. "Anyone with a valid Newtown ID and appointment confirmation will not be provided tests. Please ensure whoever is picking up the tests has this information." For more information, click here.
