AUSTIN, TX — A teen from Kentucky, who has been missing for over a week, was found in Austin on Monday, according to the Austin Police Department.
Kerry Brooks, 14, was found around midnight by Austin police. A suspect, whose identity has yet to be released, was also detained, authorities said in a statement.
According to WDRB in Louisville, Brooks' family has been looking for the teen since Dec. 19. The news outlet said the 14-year-old has autism and has never missed Christmas with his family.
During the search for a teen, a Facebook page called"Bring Home Kerry Brooks" was created to help bring the 14-year-old home. The page has more than 340 likes.
Austin police said the boy's family was notified and plans for reunification are underway. Investigators are trying to determine how Brooks got to Austin and who may have helped him get here.
"We are still in the early stages of the investigation and because this is a multi-agency investigation, we will not be able to release additional information at this time," police said.
Shively Police spokesman Sgt. Patrick Allen said it is likely criminal charges will be sought in this case.
