LA GRANGE, IL — A man who flipped his car on La Grange's main drag earlier this month was rescued by emergency responders before being accused of drunken driving, police said. Michael A. Ellis, 26, of Riverside, was charged with aggravated DUI and resisting officers, among other offenses. On Tuesday, Patch received the full police report through a public records request. The accident happened shortly before 5 p.m. Dec. 1 near Village Hall on South La Grange Road. According to the report, Ellis, who was driving a 2021 Toyota RAV4, hit a parked car and then flipped his car over, landing on its roof. Responders said they broke a window to get Ellis out. Police said they found an empty Bud Light can in Ellis' car. He was described as having slurred speech and being disoriented. When he got out of the car, he walked away to speak with his girlfriend on the phone, police said. Ellis, who declined to speak to officers without his lawyer, refused to place his hands behind his back when officers were arresting him, police said. According to the report, officers "safely lowered Ellis is a controlled manner to the ground." He was then handcuffed. A woman showed up to see Ellis at the site of the accident. It was unclear whether she was his girlfriend. The woman told officers that Ellis was coming from work in Lombard to pick her up at her parents' house. But she said Ellis was going in a direction that did not make sense, police said. Throughout her conversation with officers, the woman repeated that Ellis is a "f------ idiot though" and that he's so "f-----," according to the report. Two people were inside the parked car that was hit, police said. A man and a woman said they were preparing to get out of the car to go into the nearby Milk Money Brewing restaurant, according to the report. Police said they were not injured.
