LAKE MINNETONKA, MN — Authorities are conducting a criminal investigation into a fire that burned a Lake Minnetonka mansion earlier this week.
On Monday night at around 11:45 p.m., Orono police were called to the 2900 block of Westwood Road, according to a news release. Police said a caller reported the fire as a "mental health issue", and witnessed someone with gas and candles.
Crews from several nearby towns spent about four hours attempting to put out the flames, according to CBS4. Neighbors told CBS4 their power was cut off for several hours. Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Long Lake Fire Chief James Van Eyll. No other people were in the home at the time. One resident said a dog might have been in the home, but police have not located it.
The Orono Police Department said they are conducting a criminal investigation of the fire.
The home is a 6,320-square-foot Jyland, according to a a 2016 Artful Living sponsored story. It was built in 1998, and sold for $3.2 million in 2007, according to Realtor.com. Hennepin County tax records show that the lakefront property was last assessed in January 2020, and has an estimated market value of $3.373 million, according to Bring Me The News.
