ELMHURST, IL — A man who caused disturbances at two Elmhurst restaurants is accused of striking one officer and threatening he could beat up two officers at a time, police said. Cody L. Barton, 30, of Chicago, was arrested on a felony charge of aggravated battery to a police officer. On Tuesday, Patch received the full police report on the incident in response to a public records request. The incident started shortly before 5 p.m. Nov. 2. Police were called to KFC, 872 N. York St., for a disturbance. According to the police report, the manager at KFC, 872 N. York St., reported that Barton came into the restaurant and asked people for money. The manager asked him to leave, but he caused a scene and walked toward her aggressively, police said. He left before officers arrived. Shortly after, Barton was found at Yorky's restaurant, 836 N. York St., where he was sitting in the corner booth with his head down, appearing intoxicated, police said. He said he was willing to get a ride back to Chicago, which an officer said he might be able to arrange with a supervisor's approval, according to a report. On the way out of the restaurant, Barton walked aggressively toward a customer, who got up and told Barton not to get near him, police said. Barton replied with vulgar language, including the f-word, police said. The officer said he secured Barton by the shoulders and escorted him out to the parking lot. Barton, who retrieved his bicycle, then walked toward the officer, standing within inches of the officer's face, police said. The officer moved him back, saying, "OK, Cody, stop," according to the report. The officer kept up his right arm to prevent Barton from approaching. Barton then slapped the officer's arm out of the way, saying, "Don't do that s---." At the police station, Barton was asked to sit on the bench in the lockup. He shouted to officers, "F--- you" and threatened to fight them. He told one officer he would smack the "s--- out" of him, according to the report. He told another, "I don't care if you're wearing a white shirt, I will beat your a-- too," police said. Barton acknowledged he was unable to take all four officers at once, but could take two at a time, police said. He got into a fighting stance, but he was told no officers wanted to fight him, police said. When officers were required to take Barton to the DuPage County Jail, they assembled a team to get that done, the report said. They were able to get custody of him, as he called them "punk-a-- b------" a number of times.
