Apple Closes Its 14th Street Store Amid COVID Spike

WEST VILLAGE, NY — Apple announced on Monday the temporary closing of its New York City stores — including on 14th Street in Lower Manhattan — amid a rise in COVID-19 cases across the five boroughs due to the omicron variant. The Apple store just outside the West Village is located at 401 West 14th Street, on the corner of 9th Avenue. The company's website indicates, though, that you can still place orders and pick them up from outside the storefront. "We regularly monitor conditions and we will adjust our health measures to support the well-being of customers and employees," the company said in a statement Monday. "We remain committed to a comprehensive approach for our teams that combines regular testing with daily health checks, employee and customer masking, deep cleaning and paid sick leave." COVID testing data shows that one in 60 people living in Manhattan tested positive for the virus last week, according to multiple publications, including ABC7. The company also announced two weeks ago that storegoers must again wear masks inside locations when they shop. The decision to close affects all 12 of Apple's locations in the five boroughs, including the company's massive Fifth Avenue flagship. It's not clear when Apple will reopen NYC stores for in-person shopping. Other locations in Westchester, Long Island, upstate New York, and New Jersey will remain open for in-person shopping.
