DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Beginning Thursday, Dec. 30, the Georgia Department of Revenue will begin a system upgrade to the state's DRIVES (Driver Record and Integrated Vehicle Enterprise System) system to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs, including in Douglas County. The upgrade will require in-person vehicle registrations and titling services, including e-services and tag renewal kiosks, to be unavailable from 7 p.m. on Dec. 30 through Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. Vehicle owners with expiration dates in late December and early January are encourages to renew prior to Dec. 30 to avoid delays. The Douglas County Tax Commissioner's Office, as well as the Georgia Department of Revenue's Motor Vehicle Division, will be unable to process transactions and therefore be closed. In person, online, and kiosk services will be unavailable to customers Thursday night. According to DDS Commissioner Spencer Moore and DOR Commissioner Robyn Crittenden, "This upgrade will result in significant cost savings, while optimizing system performance and ensuring that DRIVES is always running on modern, state-of-the-art hardware. Both agencies will be well positioned to pursue future innovations because of this improvement to the underlying technology that powers Georgia DRIVES."
