General Functions Responsible for the financial accounting and reporting for Cook Inlet Housing Authority and other subsidiaries or companies, as assigned, ensuring transactions are processed timely and accurately in accordance with company policies and procedures. Primary emphasis will be in performing accounting functions such as preparing general ledger and subsidiary ledger reconciliations, month end close, reporting, cash management, preparation of financial statements of multiple companies, annual audit preparation and coordination, bank and investment reconciliations. Major Activities (Typical Duties/Responsibilities) • Reconcile general ledger accounts • Reconcile bank statements • Assist in the development of Administration allocation and pool costs and update annual allocations throughout accounting systems • Accurately process, record and reconcile investment transactions for multiple accounts • Write procedures and train users • Assist in design of accounting systems that support strong internal controls, build efficiencies and standardization throughout CIHA • Assist in cash management • May supervise staff member(s) and ensure staff complies with internal controls. • Assist in inter-company process design and implementation to streamline intercompany activity • Prepare various schedules (including insurance, cost amortizations and mortgage summaries), annual financial audit and reconciles them to general ledger • Gather and prepare work papers to complete the CIHA month-end close folder • Assist in annual financial audit for CIHA and rental properties • Cross-train in other duties of the Accounting department • Coordinate project and program audits as required • Complete special projects and other related duties as assigned Skills and Abilities • Thorough knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles with emphasis in governmental accounting principles • Strong analytical skills, including financial and audit skills relating to governmental accounting • Computer skills with emphasis in spreadsheets, word, and accounting software • Strong organizational skills • Ability to work effectively with department management and staff, and to effectively communicate with regulatory and taxing authorities • Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with a particular emphasis on the presentation of financial material • Ability to work independently to accomplish assigned tasks • Comprehensive understanding of complex financial statements Education and Experience • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Finance with an emphasis in Accounting or equivalent experience. • Five years progressive experience in accounting functions and in the utilization of accounting software • Experience in cost allocations and job costing • Great Plains software experience a plus Are you willing to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination, or eligibility for an exception to CIHA’s vaccination requirement, prior to beginning work?” Please visit www.cookinlethousing.org to submit an application.
