Production Associate - Quality Control

This position consists of taking bagels off the production conveyor line, making an instant judgment whether each bagel is of sufficient quality – neither underweight or lopsided- and placing the acceptable ones neatly and quickly on a peel board. When full, the board is placed onto a rack. When the batch is complete, the rack is counted, labeled, covered, and staged for proofing. The worker then gets another rack, stocks the peel boards for the next dough, and readies themselves for another batch to come off the line within a very few minutes. This job involves standing, lifting, and repetitive motion. The worker may handle thousands of dozens of bagels every day. The main quality assurance for the product occurs at this position. Other tasks that support the production are also required, including running the peel boards through a machine that puts corn meal on them, labeling racks, cleaning, packaging bagels in cases, and putting stock away. We are a small company, and each employee must show willingness to work as a team member, and do whatever work is necessary for the good of all. Production begins at 7:00AM, Monday through Friday. This might involve working as late as 4:00 p.m. sometimes. It is a requirement that employees stay until production is completed. When an employee masters this job, we will consider training them to cut the dough and feed the divider at the other end of the line, or weigh ingredients, or mix. Each task that the employee masters will increase their value to the company and allows for opportunity for each employee to be promoted within the company. Because we are a small, lean group, attendance and promptness are of great importance. An employee that displays unreliability will be replaced, as that employee will put an unfair burden of work on the other workers.
