Celebrated in many Asian countries, the Lantern Festival marks a major celebration on the 15th day of the first month on the lunar calendar. Celebrated in many Asian countries, the Lantern Festival marks a major celebration on the 15th day of the first month on the lunar calendar.  Our Lantern Festival celebration on the 15th on February 2020 will feature cultural performances, food, interactive lantern craft activities and cultural displays. Kids can take home beautiful lanterns after the celebration.  This family and kid-friendly event is organized by the Rockville Sister City Corporation in partnership with WQER-LP 96.7 FM Radio station (WQER.org), Asian American Chamber of Commerce, and Chinese Culture Institute (CC-I.org).   RSCC is a non-profit, international, people-to-people organization, affiliated with Sister Cities International. Our organization is dedicated to forming new and lasting relationships with the citizens of our sister cities. Through this friendship we are learning about each other's culture, language, government, schools, and home life. Incorporated in 1987, the Rockville Sister City Corporation was formed to plan and support exchange programs and other intercultural activities between sister cities. A board of directors meets each month. A newsletter is published periodically detailing ongoing corporation activities. Social events for all members are scheduled quarterly, including the annual meeting on the fourth Tuesday in September. Membership is open to any individual, family, or corporation. Memberships are valid for the calendar year.
