Multi-Disciplinary Training for Professionals Multi-Disciplinary Training for attorneys, court involved therapists, domestic conciliators, mediators, case managers, domestic conciliators. and parent coordinators (CMEs, CEUs, and CLEs pending) Objectives • Familiarize the professional with the AFCC guidelines on Court Involved Therapists • Drafting Court Orders that set up therapeutic efforts for success • Creating Step Up Parenting Plans • Tips to avoid polarization and confirmation bias • Avoiding dual roles WHY this is an important topic? • Professionals need to be knowledgeable of the intricacies and guidelines surrounding being a court involved therapist to avoid pitfalls and polarization; • Ordering therapy alone is not beneficial to families, court orders must support therapy by not bringing the legal process into the therapy room; • Clearly defining boundaries, and not crossing those boundaries maximizes the effectiveness of therapy; • Dodging attempts to put you in a position to make recommendations outside of your scope, helps protect the therapeutic process • Practicing professional courtesy by not requesting recommendations from a professional when such would be outside of the scope of his/her role, allows for the best opportunity for collaboration of court involved professionals.
