Here are the top stories today in Miami: 1. Testing sites across Miami-Dade and Broward counties are seeing long lines persist after the Christmas holiday weekend. South Floridians are waiting for hours at sites to get tested. (WSVN) 2. The University of Miami (UM) football team dropped out of the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl in Texas on New Year's Eve because of coronavirus spread. Washington State players had already arrived in Texas on Sunday when UM announced it would not be playing in the bowl this year. (Miami Patch) 3. Boynton Beach police said a 13-year-old boy died Sunday afternoon during an attempted traffic stop by police. The Florida Highway Patrol said the teen, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the bike and slammed into a sign in the median. The 13-year-old was later pronounced dead at the scene. (WPTV) 4. The Monroe County Sheriff's Office is asking residents not to call 911 to report fireworks on New Year's Eve, saying the line is to be used for emergencies only. They add that shooting fireworks off on New Year's Eve, New Year's Day, and July 4th is not a crime according to a law signed by Governor Ron DeSantis in 2018. (CBS Miami) 5. Residents are calling for city of Fort Lauderdale to shut down Take 1 Lounge nightclub following a fatal shooting early Sunday morning.
