BEVERLY, MA —Sixty-seven newly renovated full studio apartments have taken the place of the former 45 single-room occupancies at the former Cabot Street YMCA location in Beverly. The renovation was part of a $22 million update to the Cabot Street location with the apartments geared toward North Shore residents, including those facing homelessness or developmental disabilities. The YMCA of the North Shore operates housing facilities in Beverly, Ipswich, Cape Ann and Haverhill for more than 500 children and adults. "I can't think of anything more important than having a comfortable, affordable place to live," said Chris Lovasco, President and CEO of the YMCA of the North Shore. "It is something too often taken for granted. I am so proud of our Y's commitment to meeting this need even during these trying times. "It is wonderful to be a part of bringing the community together to support one of the most vital and basic needs to help people feel cared about and valued." Donors, volunteers and community partners included the Beverly Bike Shop, The Golden Hanger Consignment Sho and St. Mary's. Peter Lutts, of Herrick-Lutts Realty Partners and Beverly Commons, managed by Corcoran, helped house residents during construction. "We are thrilled to have completed this project by December," said Kevin McCarthy, Chief Financial Officer of the YMCA of the North Shore said. "Everyone involved has been working diligently to see that we return our residents, many of whom have lived in this Cabot Street location for 15 to 20 years, to this amazing new housing space while also providing 22 additional units to serve even more residents who need affordable housing in Beverly."
