Here are the top stories in Roanoke today: Nominations for the 17th annual "Help Can't Wait" celebration of heroes opened on Monday. The awards are designed to recognize those in our area who have saved lives or acted courageously to help another. Anyone can be nominated and the deadline for submissions is Jan. 25. (WSLS 10) The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts have begun offering drive-thru COVID-19 testing at the Salem Civic Center. The testing will be every Tuesday through January from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.The decision comes as the need for testing has risen due to the omicron variant and the holiday season in general. (WDBJ7)Roanoke Public Libraries will begin automatically renewing any materials without holds two days before their due date starting January 1, 2022. The libraries will send emails regarding what items are renewed if emails are on file.
