Here are the top stories in Buffalo today: Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown encouraged anyone planning to attend the city's New Year's Eve ball drop to "do the right thing" by getting vaccinated against COVID-19 and wearing masks during the event. While the precautions will not be required for attendance, local health officials are urging unvaccinated individuals to avoid the festivities. Last year's ball drop was held virtually in Buffalo due to the pandemic. (Buffalo News)The "Good Deed Grocery" is bringing free basic care items to International Preparatory students. Through online donations, kids can get soap, deodorant, body wash, and shampoo for free. They can also pick up non-perishable items for their family. Of the 57 arrests made in protest-related cases between May and August last year, 35 cases were dismissed outright and 12 more were given adjournments in contemplation of dismissal. Cases against at least eight people remain open in local and federal courts, with several individuals facing charges in both.
