Description
PLEASANTON, CA — One of the worst parts about the end of the holiday season is trying to figure out how to dispose of your Christmas tree.
Luckily for Pleasanton residents, there are a couple of options.
The city's garbage service will collect holiday trees for compost on regular service days. Christmas trees will be collected Jan. 10 through Jan. 14.
Trees must be stripped of lights, decorations, stands and be cut into 2 foot sections to be placed inside a green waste container.
Flocked or artificial Christmas trees will not be accepted but residents can call Pleasanton Garbage Services at 925-846-2042 to arrange for disposal for a fee.
Pleasanton residents can also drop off Christmas trees at the Transfer Station at 3110 Busch Rd. free of charge until Jan. 31.
Commercial customers may contact the sanitation department to have large trees collected for a price.
Those who wish to get rid of their tree beforehand can take advantage of Boy Scout Tree Recycling Day on Jan. 8. Starting at 8 a.m., 40 members of the Boy Scout Troop 941 will set out to collect more than 1,000 trees to be converted into 15 tons of mulch.
Funds raised b the project will be used to pay for new equipment, camp fees and other outdoor activities.
Residents can still register here.
