PALM SPRINGS, CA — A multi-vehicle collision in a downtown Palm Springs intersection Monday evening left one person dead and six others in a hospital, with one driver arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Leon Reynoso, 36, of Chula Vista was rushed to Desert Regional Medical Center but was pronounced dead at 5:33 p.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau. The crash occurred at 5:06 p.m. on N. Palm Canyon Drive at Alejo Road, the coroner reported. Several others were injured in the crash. "An impaired person driving under the influence collided with three different cars and sent at least seven people to the hospital," Palm Springs Police Chief Andy Mills told reporters at the scene. Mills said a DUI suspect was in custody. Jail records show Andrew Watson Hibbard, 41, was arrested at the scene and booked into Indio's John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and DUI causing injury. Hibbard was being held on $2 million bail and was due to appear in court Thursday, according to the jail records.
