PHOENIX, AZ — Police arrested a 52-year-old woman Monday night on suspicion of hit-and-run causing serious injury, in connection with the early Monday morning crash that left a Phoenix Police motorcycle officer with a serious leg injury, according to Phoenix Police. Elizabeth Mia Eaton was arrested around 11:30 p.m. Monday night. Police said they found the minivan involved in the hit-and-run in Eaton's backyard, with damage matching what was sustained in the hit-and-run. Around 12:30 a.m. Monday, the Phoenix Police motorcycle officer was headed east on Bethany Home Road near 26th Avenue when police say the minivan that Eaton was driving turned in front of the officer, causing a collision. Police say the crash was captured on surveillance video and showed the officer flying through the air. Police say that Eaton then drove away, leaving the officer laying in the road. The officer needed immediate surgery to treat leg injuries he suffered in the crash. He has been with the department for 16 years.
