DOUGLAS COUNTY, GA — Douglas County Administrator Sharon Subadan submitted her resignation earlier this month after eight months on the job, and said she resigned once she learned her contract wouldn't be renewed. According to Subadan's resignation letter, obtained by the Douglas County Sentinel, she notified the Douglas County Board of Commissioners and Commission Chairwoman Romona Jackson Jones of her resignation Dec. 3 and listed Dec. 31 as her last day of employment. She also cited a clause in her contract titled "Termination by the Employer Without Just Cause: Notice," and asked commissioners to pay her base salary for six months severance pay, as well as continuation of all pension, retirement, health plan and other benefits for six months, all of which is in her contract, the Sentinel reported. She also requested payment for vacation time, sick and annual leave, and holidays as called for in her contract. Subadan's contract lists her base salary at $215,000 annually. Subadan previously declined to comment on her resignation. Jones also didn't provide many details about her departure. "Ms. Subadan has decided to resign and pursue other opportunities," Jones said previously. "We appreciated her services to the county and wish her the best." Before joining Douglas County, Subadan was the city manager for the city of Albany. She started in her role in the county in April, replacing former County Administrator Mark Teal, whose contract was not renewed in December 2020. A search for Subadan's replacement will begin soon. She was the top non-elected official in the county, running its day-to-day operations including budget oversight. "In resigning and precipitating an amicable end to my employment with Douglas County, I am requesting that confidentiality be given to the circumstances and conversations surrounding my departure," Subadan wrote in the resignation letter, the Sentinel reported.
