It is with a heavy heart that we are looking to rehome our Great Dane Grace. She is a pure bred European Great Dane and she is 7 years old. We have loved Grace for 5 years when we rescued her. As sweet as Grace is, she is very scared of our 1 year old son as he has become more mobile and vocal. She has shown fear based aggression towards him and has nipped in his direction when he started her. We have consulted both our vet and our dog trainer and they both recommended for the safety of both of them that we keep them separate. Because of this Grace has been confined to a part of our home and we feel like it’s just not a great life for her. She is amazing with our 2 older children who are 9 and 12. We do have another dog but I wouldn’t recommend grace to a home with other dogs. Great Danes can be dominant because of their size and because she is older she is pretty stuck in her ways. Someone with older children and space for her to spend time outside would be perfect for her! We have tried rehoming her through the Great Dane rescue and the humane society but because of understaffing and overcrowding we haven’t found her the perfect home. Experience with large breeds is a must. We really really love Grace and this decision has been very difficult for us to make. We just can’t risk our sons safety. Please no hurtful messages.
