Interested in our feathered friends? Join members of the Friends of Government Canyon for a birding outing. Learn about the fun and excitement of birding, including tips on using binoculars, cameras, field guides and sound recordings. Bring your own equipment or let us know if we can loan you a pair of binoculars. This outing will make use of a paved road and the accessible terrain adjacent to the road with a mild elevation gain along the way. Who is Invited: Open to ages 8 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Registration/reservations required! Sorry, no group registrations ; no pets please. When & Where to Meet: Arrive no later than 7:45AM. Meet at the Visitors Center by the rainwater harvesting tower. The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be at the Visitor Center and ready to go no later than 7:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00AM. What to Wear & Bring: Please dress for the weather and be prepared for sunny conditions -- there will be limited cover on the road. Bring at least one liter of water and a snack if you like. Requirements: No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. This outing will make use of a paved road and the accessible terrain adjacent to the road with a mild elevation gain along the way. Registration, Fees & Cancellation: Registration is required for this hike. Group size is limited to the first 8 that register. All Natural Area entry fees apply. This hike is subject to cancellation. Friends of Government Canyon is made up of a growing group of active volunteers who take pride in the work we do — from grooming trails to facilitating education programs to advocating the protection of the Aquifer and numerous resources found within the boundaries of the Natural Area. We are hikers, naturalists, artists, mountain bikers, runners, researchers, clean water advocates and in general, lovers of the outdoors with one common mission; protecting and preserving the Natural Area.
