JOB TITLE: Lead Mechanic L3/ SafetyLOCATION: MRF Tajiguas LandfillFLSA EMPLOYMENT CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt, HourlyPREPARED DATE: March 11, 2021REPORTS TO: Operations ManagerDIRECT REPORTS: None POSITION SUMMARY: Lead Maintenance Technician provides direction to a group of technicians to ensure that all repairs and maintenance of equipment are performed that will not inflict harm on personnel, the public, and the environment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to the following: Performs repairs, inspections, and maintenance on equipment including conveyor belts and motors that drive the belts to maximize safe and productive operations.Ensure all repairs are documented and prioritized in the Computerized Maintenance Management system for contract compliance.Train all Maintenance personal on the use of the Computerized Maintenance Management system.Diagnoses more complicated repair work; provides coaching on diagnostic techniques to Personal; and schedules the repair work to ensure that all repair and maintenance work is done in a safe and timely manner, reducing lost productivity.Perform preventative maintenance according to standard schedules.Provide direction and assistance to the Maintenance PersonalMaintain an organized and clean shop.Be punctual at start and stop times.Champions Safety. Take an active role prioritizing safety to ensure zero accidents and are in total compliance with all policies and procedures.Inspects all working areas and equipment regularly to identify opportunities for improving the safety of employees.Prepare and maintain all safety records including, accident and near-miss investigations, OSHA logs, permits, safety audits and walk-through reports and other documentation.Recommends and presses for safety improvements in equipment and working conditions and practices. Leads by example with a safety conscience and utilize the proper PPE when handling broken glass, other sharp objects, heavy / awkward items, etc.Investigate Accidents. Participate in investigations of accidents and near misses and the identification of root causes and corrective actions. Maintain a database of accurate injury and safety information. Conduct employee training sessions on subjects such as hazardous material handling, employee orientation, training on proper use of equipment, company polices and safe driving.Insure employees fallow all safety processes I.E. Lockout/Tagout, wearing required PPE, ect.Help make this a fun place to work.Comply with regulations while performing work assignments, including but not limited to: Safety, Human Resources, Federal, State and local statutes. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE: Working knowledge of basic mechanical, electrical principles.Welding and/or fabrication skills and/or experience.Ability to oversee Maintenance Team by inspecting work to make sure standards have been met and a safe working environment is always maintained.Strong knowledge in Safety Rules & Regulations including All Applicable FED and State regulations.Working knowledge of electrical and control systems and have reached a high level of competency within a specific trade or discipline (e.g., welding, millwright, mechanics), but will have a functioning ability level in multiple areas.Must have knowledge/skills to be able to work on conveyor belts and motors that drive the belts.Proficient in Mechanic I & II level tasks and able to share/transfer knowledge. Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities.Problem-Solving Skills. Must possess excellent hazard recognition skills, working with different partners to address the challenges and problems ensuring accurate, safe, and efficient solutions.Valid Driver’s License. EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. Bachelor’s degree preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS:Position requires excellent verbal and written English communication skills including; ability to read, comprehend, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. Basic Spanish communication skills desired. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. REASONING ABILITY:Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.CERTIFICATIONS: Certified Safety Professional (CSP) preferred.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
