NEW YORK — More than 160 flights have been canceled in the New York City metro as of Monday morning as the surge in COVID-19 cases continues to affect holiday travel.
FlightAware reports John F. Kennedy International Airport has 92 delays and 50 canceled flights as of 2 p.m. Monday.
At LaGuardia, there have been 74 delays and 33 cancellations.
Newark Liberty International has 114 delays and 82 cancellations.
These numbers represent both incoming and outgoing flights.
More than 3,800 flights were canceled globally on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the New York Times reported.
Representatives from United Airlines and Delta told the New York Times that flights were canceled because of a combination of effects of the pandemic and some weather issues. United said many crew members had called in sick, the Times reported.
