TRUMBULL, CT — Five juveniles were arrested by Trumbull police at the Westfield Trumbull mall Sunday evening following a large fight, according to authorities. No injuries were reported in the melee, which police said swelled to about two-dozen participants at one point. It started at about 5 p.m. when officers, who were already patrolling the mall, "noticed a group of approximately 20-30 teens running outside of the mall near Door #4," where the officers saw two female juveniles fighting. "As officers were breaking up the fight, other juveniles jumped in and continued to cause a scene," police said in a statement. "One involved male juvenile swung attempting to hit one of the officers, but was unsuccessful." Once the fight was broken up, police arrested five juveniles, all of whom are Bridgeport residents between the ages of 11-15 years old. "Due to the large crowd and the disorderly conditions, Trumbull Police requested mutual aid and were assisted by officers from Bridgeport PD," police said. "K-9 officers were also used to disperse the crowd and regain order at the mall. The Westfield Trumbull Mall had just closed for business prior to the altercations erupting, and the atmosphere returned to normal shortly before 6 p.m. No injuries were reported." Three girls and two boys were arrested all of whom were charged with breach of peace and interfering with police. Additionally, one of the boys was charged with carrying a dangerous instrument, though police did not say what it was, and possession of marijuana. "He was also found to be wearing a monitoring ankle bracelet for being on probation for a previous armed robbery," police said. All the juveniles were released to the custody of their guardians, and are scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Juvenile Court at a later date.
