Cops Break Up Large Disturbance at Manchester Theater Complex

MANCHESTER, CT — Police broke up a Sunday evening disturbance at a Manchester movie theater complex on the final day of the long Christmas weekend. The incident broke out at about 7:15 p.m. Sunday at the Cinemark Theatre, 99 Redstone Road. Officers went to the complex after receiving a report about a large disturbance involving a group of juveniles. According to a report, a group of about 20 teenagers were yelling, screaming and disturbing customers. Staffers told police that the teens "became aggressive" with them when asked to leave the facility, according to a report. An Cinemark staffer told police he was assaulted by a teenage girl, and, while officers attempted to speak with her, she turned on them, according to a report. More officers were called to the scene from others towns, according to a report. Two arrests were made, police said. A 17-year-old girl from Hartford was charged with breach of peace, two counts of assaulting a police officer, interfering with police, criminal mischief and trespass. A second 17-year-old girl from Hartford was charged with breach of peace and interfering with an officer. No other injuries were and theater operations returned to normal following the dispersal of the crowd, police said. The incident took place in the lobby, hallways and exterior of the business, and individual theaters that were in use were not impacted, police said. Police said they did not believed the incident was planned.
