Free COVID-19 Testing Events Come To Loudoun County

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Two free COVID-19 testing events will be held in Loudoun County this week. The events will be held on Tuesday and Thursday by the Loudoun County Health Department. The Thursday event was announced on Monday to match a recent surge in demand for COVID-19 tests. Public health officials believe the surge in demand for tests is related to holiday travel, the rise in COVID-19 cases caused by the omicron variant, and high levels of community transmission. "If you are returning home from travel over the holiday, gathered with family friends over the holiday, or think you may have been exposed to someone who has COVID-19, I urge you to get tested," Loudoun County Health Director Dr. David Goodfriend said in a news release. "We can see breakthrough cases in people who are fully vaccinated, so knowing whether you are positive for COVID-19 will help you know when you need to isolate to avoid spreading the virus to others." Both of the drive-thru COVID-19 testing events are completely free. The events will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28 and Thursday, Dec. 30. The events will take place at Philip A. Bolen Memorial Park, 42405 Claudia Drive, Leesburg. Residents who want to be tested should enter the park on Crosstrail Boulevard from Sycolin Road. The health department said their testing contractor will test as many people as possible during the alloted timeframe. There are no age, residency, or insurance requirements for anyone who would like to be tested. Appointments are also not required. Residents do not have to symptoms of COVID-19 to be tested. During the event, the county's testing contractor will administer PCR tests through a nasal swab. No rapid or antibody tests will be available. To reduce wait times, health department officials are asking residents to fill out a registration form before they arrive. The form, which is available in English and Spanish, is for demographic purposes, officials said. Questions about insurance can be ignored.
