TRAVIS COUNTY, TX — As the omicron variant continues to spread statewide during the holidays, more Texans are seeking COVID-19 tests but running into roadblocks finding them. As of Dec. 22, Travis County had 2,764 active cases and some people are wanting to get tested ahead of family holiday gatherings. Austin Public Health is offering two COVID-19 testing sites for county residents. The George Morales Dove Springs Recreation Center, 5801 Ainez Drive, is a walk-in site that is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Travis County Exposition Center, 7311 Decker Lane, is a drive-through testing site that is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. During New Year's, the testing sites will be closed from Dec. 31 to Jan. 2. Testing is available with or without an appointment at the county testing sites. However, scheduling an appointment is recommended to save time on-site and confirm test availability for a given day. Residents can schedule a test online or by calling 3-1-1 or 512-974-2000. As with all APH testing sites, the services are free. Residents can also get at-home COVID-19 tests. To sign up for a home test, please call the nurse hotline at 512-972-5560, where they will walk you through an assessment and then help schedule a home test. In-home testing is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Private testing is also available at sites around Austin, including pharmacies, hospitals, and urgent care centers.
