Here are the top stories today in Bedford: Coming soon! The project at Market and Main in Bedford is back on track, with plans for shops, restaurants, offices, and a hotel. The project, that started with Trader Joe's and the Friendly Toast and also included Carrabba's Italian Grill that pre-dated the development, was delayed when a $120 million plan for up to 200 apartments was rejected by Bedford town planners in September 2020. But last month, the planning board signed off on a scaled-back design for the site of the former Macy's on South River Road. The Regal Cinema and a five-level parking garage are no longer part of the plan, but many restaurants and open spaces for pedestrians are planned. Mike Skelton, president and CEO of the Greater Manchester Chamber, called Market and Main at the intersection of the Everett Turnpike and Route 101 in Bedford "one of the most desirable" places for development in southern New Hampshire. Bedford has three neighborhoods, Northeast Bedford, Bedford Center, and the River Corridor, the real estate website noted. There are 43 homes currently listed for sale ranging in price from $199.9K to $2.6M, and there are five homes for rent. The schools in Bedford are rated above average making it a good place for families. (Realtor.com)Like many people in Bedford, you're probably not taking down your Christmas tree for a few weeks, so now's a good time to learn how to prevent it from catching fire. What can you do? The National Fire Protection Association recommends keeping trees away from heat and sources of heat, like candles, radiators, stoves, fireplaces, and open flames. And smokers, never light up near a Christmas tree. Use lights that meet safety standards labeled "UL" or "FM." Using LED lights that do not get as hot as other lights are recommended, and don't leave lights on over night. The Fire Department of N.Y. also said to examine tree lights for frayed wires and damaged plugs, and not to overload electrical outlets or run wires under carpets or rugs. Keep a tree close to the electrical outlet to minimize extension cords, and if you're using an artificial tree, don't place it near a heat source and use the appropriate lights. If you have a real tree, make sure it's fresh. Once it starts drying up and needles start to fall immediately dispose of the tree, the N.Y. fire experts said. Natural trees also should be kept for no longer than two weeks, and should be cut "one inch from the base of the tree" to allow water to be absorbed, and always keep the water container under the tree full. Also, never place decorations or a Christmas tree in front of an exit. You can read more here: (CNN) Today's Bedford Daily is brought to you in part by Newrez, a leading nationwide mortgage lender.
