OAK BROOK, IL — Oak Brook police are still searching for a suspect connected to the shooting at Oakbrook Center mall two days before Christmas that injured four people while shoppers filled the popular suburban shopping center. As of Christmas Day, police announced that the department, along with the DuPage County State's Attorney Office, were seeking out witnesses that saw the shooting that took place at 5:44 on Dec. 23 at 5:44 p.m. near the Ann Taylor Loft and Auntie Anne's. Police said an altercation between two men escalated, and the two men began exchanging gunfire, sending shoppers scattering and keeping people locked down inside the mall for hours. Police are specifically looking for witnesses who advised security officers of the shooting or saw offenders fleeing the scene after the shooting. On Thursday night, police said that they had one shooter in custody and that another shooter – who was reportedly shot four times – was among those who were wounded in the incident. Police said that a black man in his 30s with long dreadlocks and of medium height and weight was being sought as a possible third shooter. The man was caught on surveillance footage wearing a blue puffy coat. SWAT teams were still searching for him on Thursday and thought that he might still be in the mall but said later that night he was still not in custody. Police said Saturday that anyone who has seen the man is asked to contact Sgt. Reid Foltyniewicz by email at [email protected] or by phone at (630) 368-8746.
