Description

Saturday, January 8th from 1:30-3 pm A Holiday that celebrates apples by hanging toast from trees you say? Why not! Come visit the Home Orchard Education Center Arboretum, for a mellow outdoor celebration and mini orchard blessing! This is a free, informal, family friendly invite, and a good way to ditch your cabin fever, while getting outdoors for the afternoon. Traditionally, the Apple Wassail, or – Apple Howling, is a lively Winter affair that dating to the 16th century in the cider producing parts of England. Celebrations featured a procession to the most favored apple tree in the orchard, where revelers poured cider over the roots, decorated it with slices of toast to feed good spirits (and birds) and sang to promote a good harvest for the coming year. For our wassail celebration, we will have blessing bags with toast, popcorn, cranberries, and blessing tags at the ready for you to write your new years wishes on and hang from your favorite trees. Should anyone like to give Apple Wassailing a try, singing is always encouraged! Details & Directions can be found here in the Home Orchard Education Center website:
