Description

Interested in making your own armor? In this ten-week intro to metalwork course, students will learn techniques to create their own wearable armour. We will use the theme of protection to explore a variety of scientific and artistic techniques involving working with copper. Students will practice wielding a jeweler saw to cut out their own unique designs. We will then build an electro etching tank using battery power and salt to etch unique designs into copper. We will also be using methods of hole punching, stamping, riveting, and patinaing, all to enhance and form their special creations. Throughout this practice, we will have the opportunity for self-reflection, and exploring the power of intention. What does it take to feel protected and how can we embody that through our hands and into the pieces we are creating? This ten-week program runs from January 20th - March 31st (no class February 24th); 10:00AM-11:30AM and is designed for students ages 13 and up. Perri is an artist and entrepreneur who loves to follow her own path in life! When she's not thinking about and making jewelry, she can be found telling her cat, Saturn, how much she loves him, appreciating the beauty of trees, and studying the stars as a way to make sense of it all! She loves mixing mediums and exploring new realms of art and creation.
