Description
Developing the art of relationships through Tango's Embrace. Whether we know it or not, we all crave the touch of another person and to connect in real life. Especially now, we are becoming more separated and lonely. What we don’t realize is that when we lose that connection, we actually lose ourselves. Slowly we have moved away from the comfortable use of our bodies in relation to music and each other. Live music and social dancing used to be an important part of our communities. Every small town had a dance hall where family and friends joined together to celebrate. It is our goal to resurrect this sacred ritual, to re-connect to our own bodies and with other people through music and movement. In Pure Touch, we develop the art of relationship through the embrace of tango. Tango is a microcosm of life, and within it, all possibilities of relationship exist. Tango offers a simple medium, with simple rules, that we can use to learn about ourselves, another person, and the space we create together. Tango can teach us to be more balanced, more connected, more confident, more clear. Tango can also tempt us to disconnect and suffer sorrow and confusion. It’s a tool that will let you confront your core self and test your every move, standing in the face of the other. What you get from tango depends on what you bring to it. You build yourself up with every step. If you invest in this dance, it will invest in you for the rest of your life. The practice of pure touch is a practice of noticing how you react and learning how to not react when it isn’t useful. The fact is that we are not the best judges of ourselves and that just one other person can oftentimes see in us something that we could never see in ourselves. We also have the gift to be the other to someone who is trying to see themselves. How do you stand and not lose an inch of yourself? How do you stand and not be pulled but retain the ability to make a conscious, reasoned choice that is not influenced by all of your pain, all of your fear, all of your desire? How do we find that space? How do we then share that space? Could this be the secret to fulfilling relationships and a beautiful dance? Well… come to this class series and help me find out. We’ll see you there! Through a series of exercises, dance steps and reflections, we will learn to explore our human connections. We are 100% inclusive and we will all work together to make everyone feel welcome and supported. We believe in radical consent. We want to create a safe space to explore, and have fun and no one will be pressured to do anything they don’t want to do. If you struggle with voicing your desires, we will teach you how. That’s what this class is all about. This class is for: * Anyone who wants a strong foundation in Tango, from beginners to experienced dancers * Anyone who wants to learn interpersonal skills * We will not be switching partners during this series so please bring a partner that you feel comfortable dancing with throughout the 4 weeks.
