GARDEN CITY, NY — The Garden City Police Department reported the following incidents for the week ending Dec. 21. Dec. 15 A 49-year-old man was arrested for leaving the scene of an accident that occurred on Clinton Road on Dec. 13.A West Babylon carting company on Stewart Avenue and Raymond Court was charged with being 10,000 pounds overweight and leaking nauseous/hazardous fluids onto the roadway.A driver on Franklin Avenue was charged with driving with a suspended license and suspended registration. Dec. 16 Upon investigation of a two-vehicle crash on Stewart Avenue, officers arrested one of the drivers, a 50-year-old man, for DWI. He was charged with a felony due to a prior DWI conviction. One occupant suffered minor injuries.A resident was advised his identity was stolen and used in an attempted purchase of a vehicle out of state. A truck struck the Cherry Valley Avenue train trestle. The operator was charged with operating the truck without a commercial vehicle license and disregarding bridge clearance signs.A letter placed in the mail inside the Garden City Post Office was stolen, altered and cashed.Officers responded to multiple traffic light outages on Rockaway Avenue and Cathedral Avenue. Dec. 17 Upon further investigation of a man arrested on Dec. 10 for unlawful surveillance of a woman inside an Adelphi University dorm bathroom, Garden City detectives identified several additional victims and re-arrested the 20-year-old man for four counts of unlawful surveillance and four counts of burglary (sexually motivated). Officers were assigned to monitor area schools due to numerous social media postings containing school-related threats. Police and firefighters responded to a Franklin Avenue restaurant for a carbon monoxide alarm and found positive meter readings due to a non-operational exhaust fan. Firefighters rendered the area safe. There were no reported injuries; the premise was closed at the time.Twelve trucks were inspected at a New Hyde Park Road checkpoint, of which five were placed out of service. Thirty-eight tickets were issued for various traffic and safety violations, including 10 Haz-Mat violations, and five unsecured load violations.An item was reported stolen from a vehicle parked in a Hampton Road driveway.Officers investigated a report of a vehicle leaving the scene after crashing into another vehicle on Cherry Valley Avenue. Dec. 18 Police and firefighters responded to a local restaurant for a fire alarm and determined the cause was excess oven smoke.A driver on New Hyde Park Road was charged with unlicensed operation and excessive speed. Dec. 19 Officers arrested an 18-year-old man on Stewart Avenue at Roosevelt Street for DWI and excessive speed.Police and firefighters responded to a residence for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be an overheated A/C Unit.A driver on Clinton Road and Locust Street was charged with driving with a suspended license, improper license plates, and unregistered operation. Dec. 20 A driver on Kenwood Road was charged with driving with a suspended license and passing a stop sign. Dec. 21 Officers investigated a report of a person's identity being used to apply for an unauthorized loan.A Garden City Plaza business reports three fraudulent checks totaling $100,000 were written against the company's bank account.Police and firefighters responded to a 7th Street building for a fire alarm and determined the cause to be construction.
