Here are the top 2 stories today in Burlington: An organization that gives women the tools and skills they need to run for political office just announced its largest and most diverse class. Emerge Vermont reported that 26 women were chosen for the class of 2022. Since the organization began in 2013, they've graduated 149 women; 43 alumnae currently hold office in Vermont, with 23 of them currently serving in the State Legislature. The class will go through 70 hours of training during the next four months; in this time, students will learn how to run and budget a campaign, build a team, speak publicly, and create and refine a campaign message. (WCAX)Over 100 volunteers in Burlington spent their Christmas day giving back to seniors in the community. Several organizations, including Age Well, Helping and Nurturing Diverse Seniors (HANDS), and the Elks Lodge, united to make the holiday special for homebound senior housing residents. Volunteers started at the Elks Lodge in Burlington, picking up gift bags filled with winter items like hats and socks. They then headed to Burlington High School's campus off of North Avenue, where meals are prepped to hit the road. Finally, they delivered goods to over 900 people all over Chittenden County.
