Join the Friends of Government Canyon for a guided hike to the Protected Habitat. Members of the Friends of Government Canyon Activities Committee and Trail Patrol will lead a hike to the Protected Habitat. This hike is approximately 12 to 13 miles over rough terrain. Who is Invited: Open to ages 14 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Registration/reservations required! Sorry, no group registrations ; no pets please. When & Where to Meet: Arrive no later than 7:45AM. Meet at the Visitors Center by the rainwater harvesting tower. The hike will last until 3:00 or 4:00 PM depending on participants. The Natural Area front gates open at 7:00AM; plan to be at the Visitor Center and ready to go no later than 7:45AM. The hike starts promptly at 8:00AM. What to Wear & Bring: Dress in layers appropriate for the weather. Carry at least 3 liters of water per person, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, hat and raingear. Wear sturdy well-broken-in hiking shoes or boots. Requirements: No pets please. Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Participants must be physically able to hike approximately 12 to 13 miles over rocky trails with significant elevation changes. Registration, Fees & Cancellation: Registration is required for this hike. Group size is limited. All Natural Area entry fees apply. This hike is subject to cancellation. Friends of Government Canyon is made up of a growing group of active volunteers who take pride in the work we do — from grooming trails to facilitating education programs to advocating the protection of the Aquifer and numerous resources found within the boundaries of the Natural Area. We are hikers, naturalists, artists, mountain bikers, runners, researchers, clean water advocates and in general, lovers of the outdoors with one common mission; protecting and preserving the Natural Area.
