UPPER EAST SIDE, NY — A cyclist and a pedestrian were both fatally struck by a truck driver on the Upper East Side on Friday, police said. The crash happened around 9:21 a.m. at the intersection of East 61st Street and Third Avenue. A man driving a box truck hit two pedestrians and one cyclist in the street. The cyclist and one of the pedestrians were rushed to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead. The other pedestrian suffered only minor injuries, according to an NYPD spokesperson. All three victims were adult men. The vehicle was a delivery truck from Baldor's Specialty Foods, the New York Post reported. Its driver stayed at the scene, and police did not announce any arrests. Police were still investigating the circumstances of the crash shortly before noon on Friday. The Christmas Eve crash came just days after a delivery cyclist was killed after colliding with a parked truck on First Avenue. That crash, which took the life of 31-year-old Salvador Navarrete Flores, triggered an outpouring of grief from his fellow "deliveristas."
