The Cathy and Morris Bart Jewish Cultural Arts Series returns with film screenings and a talk by bestselling cookbook author Jake Cohen!
Food writer and self-described “nice Jewish boy” Jake Cohen joins us to share the stories and influences behind his stunning debut cookbook, Jew-ish: Reinvented Recipes from a Modern Mensch. Knowing Jewish food is so much more than matzo ball soup, challah and babka, Jake has reinvented the food of his Ashkenazi heritage and drawn inspiration from his husband’s Persian-Iraqi traditions to offer recipes that are modern, fresh, and enticing for a whole new generation of readers. Created with the modern millennial in mind—experienced home cooks or not—who want elevated versions of old-school classics, Jew-ish is an ode to the magic of Jewish Diaspora dishes that still preserves the cultural importance of food as connection.
