Press release from the City of San Antonio: December 20, 2021 CONTACT: Victor Landa, 210-884-3429 [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (December 20, 2021) –The District 6 council staff has been working to ensure that San Antonio's foster care youth feel included during the Holidays. "Our foster kids don't have the traditional community and family support in this season of giving, so we stepped up to include them," said Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda. District 6 worked closely with Nicholous Brinson, of The Line, The San Antonio Spurs, the RK Group, and Child Advocates San Antonio (CASA) to collect and deliver toys, funds and coats for foster care children across the city. Thanks to this effort more than 1,000 of San Antonio's foster care children were included in this year's celebration of gift giving and coming together. Many of the gifts were distributed at a traditional Holiday celebration sponsored by CASA. "We continue to work to create opportunities for San Antonio to unite with its best effort to help the most vulnerable," said the Councilwoman who has sent a memo to Mayor Ron Nirenberg and City Manager Eric Walsh to consider allowing City staff to use Flex Time and Alternative Work Schedules to volunteer to help foster kids at CASA. Flex time is defined as the ability for a supervisor to make a temporary alteration to an employee's regular work schedule. "Our clear focus has been to spark a feeling of inclusion and caring," said Cabello Havrda. "I'm very grateful for the work that CASA is doing to provide support to children who have none, and to the community that answered our call this Holiday Season."
