experienced hodtender needed for part time, easier residential work
Jobs
Sandy UT
Description
The job is usually three days a week. It's being a hod for a bricklayer that works part time. He's 65 and has been doing it since like 1975 or something. He's really chill and outgoing, easy to work with, doesn't need much more than mud and bricks cut, and taken up the scaffolding, just basic hod stuff. The scaffolding is already set up 3 levels high. We are working in the winter so we have to heat up water and cover things when we leave. But overall it's a pretty easy job, just continuous. Constant motion but for residential work with an old man so its not overwhelming by any means. We would love a part time hod, 3 days a week for this job that is in sandy and one or two others that are coming up. And truthfully, it would be great if we could keep you around afterward but all we are asking is a 2 week commitment, starting this Monday. If this ad is up we are still looking. It's all residential stuff so it's not like we are building Walmarts, banks, and 711s. It's more casual. More precise. Not so intense, not moving at breakneck speeds. -Pay is $22-25 an hour -Pay is a personal check on January 6th so you either need a bank account or have 2 forms of ID to cash it at an America first credit union -YOU MUST HAVE A CAR, and not just your girlfriends car. Unless you've been such a bum that she will do anything to get you to work and back everyday lol. -must have experience. At least 6 months, again we aren't asking much so long as you aren't afraid of heights/scaffolding, have a basic idea of how to build scaffolding with some experience,, moving brick up said scaffolding, you know how to make mud with that drill and paddle thing, and you aren't afraid of having to haul some brick with tongs. -you're helping an old man. You will have to do all the lifting and heavy stuff. -an 80 pound bag of mortar should not defeat you. You will have to unload a few bags here and there and at least be able to lift them repeatedly to make the mud. -you'll be cutting brick to size with a moderately sized brick saw. -im really hoping this isn't asking too much but for the love of all things not stupid, please do not be stoned every moment of your life. Obviously meth is a hell of a drug, and God help you if you're on heroin, but we can't have that kind of stuff. We need someone who's here fully, mentally. The bricklayers are experienced, but being able to think fast and occasionally remember things they might forget is great. We have experience with stoners, and it's never been great... just remedial people compared to sober people. It really is easy stuff. Just have to know what you're doing with some reasonable consistency. You will eventually have to talk to me and the OTHER old man (company owner, not the bricklayer you're working with) by phone to get this gig. He's cool, a mule of a man tho dude, gives me hope for when I'm 63, super chill and easy to work with. Funny guy, has lots of stories. I'm HIS hod. Eventually you'll work with him too.
