BHM National Theme – Black Health and Wellness
MC: Chris Loos – Monrovia Alum, Leader and Mentor for youth and popular broadcasting personality
Guest Speaker:
Dr. Lauren Walton, Physician Kaiser Permanente
Dr. Walton is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. At 5 years old, after listening to her mother’s heartbeat through a stethoscope, knew that she wanted to be a physician. She was blessed to have parents who nurtured her interest in medicine. Consequently she was able to attend an accelerated medical program and achieve her dream. While in medical school, she enjoyed studying all aspects of medicine but soon discovered her talents and interest in listening to the stories of patients grappling with mental health issues. Through her work, she became intimately acquainted with the social stigma of mental illness and began to advocate for patient and family education, timely diagnosis and treatment. She’s dedicated her life to providing compassionate, high-quality mental health care to all of her patients.
