Description

Into the Wild - Shadow Work This impermanence exists everywhere, including our own minds. Our thoughts are transient like the clouds, they come and go. Clinging to them: to the beliefs, the stories, that run through our mind ensure misery because they too, like all things, come and go. This is where meditation comes in: to cultivate distance between who we are (our eternal higher Self, the observer) and the things that we think, say, and do (the impermanent, transient smaller self). We all have a shadow side, it’s part of our human experience! But we can tend to ignore and repress our shadow side which can cause a lot of triggers and harm in our lives. Shadow work is so important as part of a spiritual journey. While first getting into it can be uncomfortable and you may find yourself wanting to avoid it but it brings so much clarity and love into your life. The more shadow work you do the easier it is to notice your shadow side and honor it accordingly. In my opinion, shadow work is the truest form of self-love, as it’s about loving and accepting ALL OF YOURSELF. It’s always standing right behind us, just out of view. In any direct light, we cast a shadow. The shadow is everything we can’t see in ourselves. The shadow self – sometimes simply called our shadow – is the unconscious part of the brain, which drives a large amount of our behavior. Automatic responses to triggers, deep-seated habits, and emotional patterns “live” in this shadow self. But as we progress in our spiritual paths, it’s important not to suppress or ignore our shadow self in our efforts for self-discovery, self-improvement.
