First, today's weather: A little snow at times. High: 37 Low: 30. Here are the top three stories in Spokane today: The city of Spokane will have a number of closures related to the holidays. Spokane City Hall will be closed Friday and Dec. 31 in observance of Christmas Day and New Year's Day holidays.City of Spokane garbage pickup and curbside recycling will proceed on a normal schedule. The Waste-to-Energy facility will be closed on Saturday and Jan. 1, but otherwise open from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Cheney Free Press) After months of uncertainty, the city of Spokane is preparing to implement a federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate on its own employees. Spokane Mayor Nadine Woodward's first and potentially most arduous task heading into 2022 will be to comply with the vaccine mandate for employers with more than 100 employees ordered by President Joe Biden. With more than 2,000 employees, the city is expected to be compliant with the vaccine mandate by Jan. 10 in order to avoid penalties. (The Spokesman-Review)The suspect in a Spokane Valley murder has been arrested after months on the run. The Spokane Valley Police Department said Kayla J. Holden, 29, was arrested Tuesday night.
