Good morning, Roanoke! Like many of you, the Patch team is taking some time off to enjoy the holidays, so there will not be a newsletter in your inbox tomorrow. We appreciate your understanding of this slight pause in our schedule, and I will be back on Monday with the next edition of the Roanoke Daily! Now, here's everything happening around town today. First, today's weather: Variable clouds. High: 59 Low: 44. Here are the top stories today in Roanoke: Roanoke may be looking at another warm Christmas. 109 previous Christmases, Roanoke's high temperature has been at or above 60 exactly as often as it has stayed at or below freezing, 12 times each. Southwesterly flow ahead of low-pressure and a cold front entering the Ohio Valley will sweep mild air across the region. This along with the sun will raise temperatures 15 to 20 degrees above late December norms. (Roanoke Times) Thousands of dollars in grant money were awarded to the Roanoke non-profit, Blue Ridge Literacy through Freedom First Credit Union's Community Grants Program. This money will help a minimum of 60 foreign-born adults at different stages of their naturalization process. (WSLS 10)It's the season of giving, but one local nonprofit is still in dire need of donations to help reach its yearly goal. The Salvation Army of Roanoke is $50,000 dollars behind its goal for the Red Kettle campaign. The Salvation Army of Roanoke's goal is to raise $150,000 from red kettles each year, but because of the pandemic, they're experiencing a drastic drop in donations as well as a lack of volunteers.
