Press release from the City of San Antonio: Thursday, December 16, 2021 CONTACT: Rosana Galaviz Office: (210) 207-5785 [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (December 16, 2021) – Members of the Heritage Neighborhood Association have been working tirelessly to secure funding for the District 4 Heritage Neighborhood Park Community Center. The 17,000 sq. ft. new multi-generational center will be adjacent to Heritage Neighborhood Pool and including programming for seniors and youth of all ages. Councilwoman Dr. Adriana Rocha Garcia is proud to support this community-driven project and appreciates all the residents who took part in the planning efforts. Led by former leader, the late Barbara "Robbie" Robinette, residents organized to get the support needed to include this project in the 2017-2022 Bond Program. On May 6, 2017, voters approved the 2017 Bond Program, which authorized $8,500,00 for the District 4 Heritage Community Center. The facility will be managed jointly by the Department of Human Services and the Parks and Recreation Department. Additional funds were approved in the FY2021 Budget to provide storm drainage improvements directly adjacent to the site. Funding for the new facility and public infrastructure improvements in the area total $9,574,500. The single-story facility will include a dining room, warming kitchen, classrooms, gym with exercise areas, lounge/game areas, health screening room with staff offices, covered outdoor seating area as well as a reception and waiting area. The site improvements for this project will also include parking for approximately 150 vehicles, sidewalks, vehicular drop-off area, landscaping and outdoor activity spaces. Wetland preservation, LED lighting, a high-efficiency mechanical system along with low-water use and native vegetation will be some of the green and sustainable building components for this project. Construction for the District 4 Heritage Neighborhood Park Community Center is scheduled to start January 2022 and by completed in spring 2023. As the 2022 Bond Program process is underway, Councilwoman Rocha Garcia recognizes the importance of leveraged partnerships and finding ways to build on past community investments. "Empowering our residents to organize and earn support for impactful projects in their neighborhoods is a testament to what we can all do if we work together," she commented, "The Decade of Neighborhoods is far overdue and just like this bond project, future 2022 Bond projects should prioritize investments in our neighborhoods."
