Press release from the City of San Antonio: Thursday, December 16, 2021 CONTACT: Victor Landa, 210-884-3429 [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (December 16, 2021) – The San Antonio City Council voted today to approve the City's Strategic Housing Implementation Plan (SHIP). Councilwoman Melissa Cabello Havrda released the following statement: "The public input process is extremely important and efforts to include Spanish language speakers and our hearing-impaired community are appreciated. The housing conversation is crucial. The work of Assistant City Manager Lori Houston, Chief Housing Officer Mark Carmona, NHSD Director Veronica Soto, all the NHSD team, and our San Antonio neighborhoods has been especially important in taking the interests of all stakeholder groups into account. It's important as well that certain disadvantaged groups be prioritized while acknowledging that adequate housing is an issue that all families face. This conversation will continue with an exchange of ideas to include neighbors who need assistance but may not be considered to be in need. As anyone who has had children or helped raise children can attest, even with a good salary, sometimes it's hard to make ends meet, and the city should work with its partners to make sure that all known resources are provided. I also, again, express my commitment to foster youth, particularly those aging out of the foster care system. This group, as discussed in the study on homelessness, is more likely to experience homelessness once they are out of the foster system. When thinking of 30% AMI or below, all the groups included need to be acknowledged. Foster youth, our special needs community, as well as individuals escaping domestic violence, can fall into this category. It should be remembered that there are whole groups of vulnerable residents behind these numbers and percentages." This press release was produced by the City of San Antonio.
