Press release from Carroll County Public Schools: Bowers, Brenda Wednesday, December 22, 2021 Carroll County high school students won several awards in this year's Rethink Recycling Sculpture Contest sponsored by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE). Century High School (Nicole Diem, art teacher): Kierstan Lang – 2nd place, Use of Materials, Guardian Griffin Farquhar – 1st place, Creativity, Snake of Depression Liberty High School (Lauren Latane-Valis, art teacher): Abbey Jenkins – 1st place, Craftsmanship, Scarlet Dragon South Carroll High School (Lisa Katz, art teacher): Lacey Dustin – 2nd place, Workmanship, Maurice The MDE created the Rethink Recycling Sculpture Contest to celebrate America Recycles Day, which is held each year on November 15. The contest allows students to display their creativity and challenges them to use recycled materials to create artistic and innovative sculptures. It also promotes recycling, source reduction, and buying products made from recycled materials as objectives to a more sustainable society.
