NEWARK, NJ — Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward to help catch the person or persons who left a deceased body in a Newark cemetery earlier this month.
On Thursday, Essex County law enforcement officials announced that there is a reward up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the death of Alexander Jones, 51, of Newark.
The Essex County Prosecutor's Office released the following statement about Jones' death, which authorities are investigating as a homicide:
"On Dec. 8, a body was discovered in the Hebrew Cemetery located at 442 South 19th Street in Newark. An autopsy concluded the cause of death was blunt and sharp force trauma. After the victim was identified, his next of kin was notified." The death is being investigated by the Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, which includes detectives from the Newark Police Department.
